The SEAA is sorry to hear that the previous President of Hampshire Athletics, Gerry North, passed away late on Tuesday evening (1st April) after a long period of illness.
Gerry was a Coach, Team Manager and Road Race Director for City of Portsmouth AC.
He was a renowned Cross Country Runner winning National Titles as a Junior; Senior and Veteran,as well as a Road Running and Track athlete representing England and Great Britain.
He was acknowledged by his peers as being the greatest Cross Country runner this country has ever produced.
Gerry's athletic career started with Blackpool & Fylde AC, before moving south with his family, where he joined Belgrave Harriers in 1962. He became the Club's inspirational Running Captain leading Belgrave's Teams through a period of considerable success. He became a Life Member and President in 2004.
In later life, with his active career behind him, he moved to the South Coast and joined Portsmouth AC. He also became the SEAA Road Running Team Manager.
The funeral is going to be held at Portchester Crematorium (Upper Cornaway Lane. PO16 8NE) on Monday 14 April at 3pm. Meeting at 2pm at Mountbatten Centre (Alexandra Park. PO2 9QA) and are hoping for Gerry to be carried in his coffin over the last 100 metres of Portsmouth AC's running track before leaving for the crematorium about 2.30pm. The wake will be held at the Mountbatten Centre.
David Littlewood MBE
We are sad to report the passing after a short illness of the South of England Life Member and Past President, David Littlewood MBE. A lifelong member of Hercules Wimbledon A.C. he was the Association's President in the early 1990's having been involved in the sport for over sixty years in many ways at club, county, area, national and international level.
